JEDI raises funds through the delivery of its Indigenous Reconciliation Awareness Module (IRAM)*. 100% of these funds will be used to support initiatives related to the revitalization of Indigenous language, culture, and traditions in the New Brunswick region. 

The objective of the IRAM Culture & Language Bursary is to support language and cultural revitalization and support students in reaching their post-secondary goals. The unique nature of these bursaries is to support students who are working to bring culture and/or language practices back to their communities while attending some type of post-secondary education and/or other adult learning program.  

Eligibility Requirements:   

• Full-time or part-time Indigenous student;   

• From a First Nations community in New Brunswick or a member of NBAPC;   

• Proof of Indigenous status or proof of NBAPC membership;   

• Proof of studies at a post-secondary institution or educational program;   

• In 500-1000 words, the applicant is to write an essay illustrating their need, future goals and aspirations, their commitment to education, volunteer work, and examples of the ways that they are and/or will continue to bring culture, traditions, and/or language practices back to the Indigenous population in NB; 

• Supporting letter from community Chief & Council, or community Elder/Traditionalist illustrating the applicant’s work within community, culture, language and/or traditions/ceremony;  

• A copy of the applicant’s resume.   

Amount:

Two (2) bursaries per Indigenous Community in NB and NBAPC members to support post-secondary education, including university, community college, and/or other adult learning programs. Up to 34 bursaries per year in the amount of $500 each.

Submit a completed application along with an essay, proof of studies, proof of Indigenous status or NBAPC membership, supporting letter from community Chief & Council, or community Elder/Traditionalist illustrating the applicant's work within community, culture, language and/or traditions/ceremony, and resume to the JEDI office by March 22, 2024. Successful applicants will be notified in April 2024.    

How are the bursary applicants selected?   

A selection committee will review applications and a final award of the bursary will be issued in March 2024.
