Truth & reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) created 94 Calls to Action to address the ongoing impacts of Canadian Residential Schools on Indigenous Peoples. These Calls to Action identify steps that government, organizations, communities and individuals can take to help move reconciliation forward in Canada.

Call to Action #92 focuses on the business community.

IARM – Indigenous Anti-Racism Module

The Indigenous Anti-Racism Module (IARM) helps employers and employees develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be anti-racist. This training explores:

  • The history of racism and its key concepts.

  • How racism develops and manifests in unhealthy workplace practices.

  • Recognizing where racism exists today.

Delivered in a lecture-style format infused with interactive workshops, participants actively engage in their own learning through multiple activities throughout the day. This approach helps individuals begin their journey toward recognizing and addressing how racism impacts workplaces.

This one-day module deepens understanding of reconciliation by addressing a significant barrier faced by Indigenous peoples: racism as a tactic of assimilation, which remains a cornerstone of ongoing systemic challenges. By understanding how racism operates, participants can contribute to building a more inclusive and equitable future.

This training, along with our Two-Eyed Seeing Module (TESM), builds on the foundation of our Indigenous Reconciliation Awareness Module (IRAM). While these sessions can be taken independently, JEDI strongly recommends completing IRAM first to gain a comprehensive understanding of reconciliation in the workplace before progressing to IARM or TESM.

TESM – Two-Eyed Seeing Module

The Two-Eyed Seeing Module (TESM) is a one-day interactive session introducing participants to the concept of Two-Eyed Seeing through lectures, videos, discussions, and hands-on activities. Rooted in Indigenous (Mi’kmaq) ways of Knowing, Being, and Doing, this training highlights how these knowledge systems can:

  • Strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities.

  • Enhance hiring and retention practices.

  • Provide a cultural foundation for understanding the Indigenous worldview.

Participants will learn how to integrate the Two-Eyed Seeing framework into workplace practices, promoting greater collaboration and mutual respect.

Like the Indigenous Anti-Racism Module (IARM), TESM builds on the Indigenous Reconciliation Awareness Module (IRAM). While each module stands alone, JEDI recommends starting with IRAM to establish a solid foundation for reconciliation in the workplace before progressing to TESM or IARM.
