APPLY TO WIN ONE OF TWO $2,500 ABORIGINAL BURSARIES

The First Nations Information Governance Centre (FNIGC) is offering two separate Bursaries worth $2,500 for Aboriginal students. Students must be enrolled in Epidemiology, Population Health, Biostatistics, or Information and Data Management Technology. Along with the bursary, students will be granted access to free registration for FNIGC’s online course.

FNIGC is a First Nations organization that works to provide the information, research, and training needs of First Nations people and communities. FNIGC collects data on specific research topics such as First Nations Regional Health Survey (RHS), First Nations Early Childhood, Education and Employment Survey (REEES).

These studies provide information, research, training, data collection, analysis and dissemination services to First Nations at the community, regional and national levels. The information collected can eventually lead to effective policy and programs for First Nation communities.

Eligible First Nations students must complete and submit an application that includes two essays (minimum 400 words each) from the list of topics below:

  1. Please describe what the term “Power of Data” means to you and provide examples of how Data has influenced positive change in your First Nation community.
  2. Please discuss research ethics and how the First Nations principles of OCAP® apply. Provide concrete examples.
  3. Please discuss why you would be a good candidate to receive the FNIGC Bursary.
  4. The First Nations Principles of Ownership, Control, Access and Possession (OCAP®) are foundational to the work undertaken at the FNIGC. Please discuss how OCAP® will apply to the work that you will pursue in your planned professional career.
  5. The term “Knowledge Translation” and “Knowledge Dissemination” are popular terms used as products of research. Please discuss and provide how these terms can benefit First Nations and access to information.
