Working in Information Technology has Changed Kyle Woodman's Life for the Better

Kyle Woodman, of Woodstock First Nation, has been working at IBM in Florenceville, NB as a Technology Support Representative for the past two years. He has a wide range of responsibilities and roles at IBM and is passionate about climbing the corporate ladder. Since starting his career in Information Technology (IT), he believes that his life and career have changed for the better.

After working in a wide variety of jobs, Kyle began his IT career as a graduate of the Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) Software Testing Program. Kyle took JEDI’s Software Testing Program because he was always interested in technology and wanted to get his foot in the door. Kyle said, “It was a long road to get where I am but JEDI helps it’s students get started and often has funding or items to help get students started in whatever field they are training in, for example, JEDI negotiated work placements for the software testing classes.”

After taking the program, Kyle found work with PLATO Testing. His favorite aspect was bug hunting in exploratory testing. Kyle said, “Finding all the bugs and reporting them was the absolute best. I feel the most productive doing that.”

Kyle has also taken a seminar on cell phone repair followed up with Network Support training at NBCC in 2018, which led to his position at IBM. His position at IBM includes handling inbound calls and electronically submitted tickets/emails for various user issues ranging from password resets to resolving network, software and hardware issues. In addition, “we create user guides/manuals for both users and fellow agents alike to follow and complete various tasks/activities in compliance with company processes,” said Kyle.

Kyle said his future plans are to, “Continuously educate myself in subjects related to my field. Climb the corporate ladder and achieve any and all goals I set forth for myself and my team”.

Along with gaining a career from the Software Testing program, Kyle gained many personal and professional benefits as well such as, friends in the organization, and trustworthy feedback for his career choices and ideas. Kyle said, “JEDI is the origin story of my IT career essentially,” and that he would absolutely recommend JEDI’S programs to others.
