This is the last recap for JEDI’s 5-week Agri-Food/Agriculture Webinar Series. In our fifth and last webinar we featured a presentation on Indigenous Agriculture with FCC and we shared Part 2 of Working Together: Indigenous & Gov’t Partnerships where they discussed Indigenous branding in the seafood industry.

Shaun Soonias from Red Pheasant Cree Nation is the Director of Indigenous Relations at Farm Credit Canada (FCC). He focuses on enabling economic development with Indigenous communities by increasing participation and access to capital in primary production through the agri-food and agri-business value chains.

Terry Sullivan is the Senior Advisor to the Assistant Deputy Minister at the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries (DAFF). Before working in this position, he worked with the Government of British Columbia in 2004 in Haida Gwaii where he worked closely with First Nations to find solutions to complex resource management issues.

Jim Ward, from Eel Ground First Nation, is the General Manager of the North Shore Mi’kmaq District Council (NSMDC). This tribal council delivers numerous programs and services to its 7 member Bands. NSMDC also provides professional technical support and services to a majority of First Nations in the Maritime provinces. Jim who is an entrepreneur at heart, has been involved in the community development area for 30+ years and has gained a wide perspective of First Nations community development and the issues currently impacting further development and growth.
