Dustyn Martin-Ross, originally from Gesgapegiag, moved to Fredericton to complete his degree in Environmental Management at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). His studies gave him strong technical and analytical skills, which became the foundation for his transition into IT. Dustyn enrolled in the JEDI Cybersecurity Program, where he was able to apply his problem-solving abilities in a new field and launch his career in cybersecurity.
After graduating from UNB, Dustyn worked at a startup company until 2019. Eager for a new direction and driven by his passion for continuous learning, he enrolled in the JEDI Cybersecurity Program in 2020. The seven-month program was a turning point providing him with new knowledge, practical skills, and the confidence to pursue a career in IT.
Following the program, Dustyn secured an internship with Deloitte. He thrived in the role, and soon transitioned into a full-time, permanent position with the company. After several years at Deloitte, Dustyn saw an opportunity that would allow him to give back: a position as an IT Instructor with JEDI. Motivated by the chance to share his experience and mentor others, he applied and was hired.
As an IT Instructor, Dustyn is passionate about creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment. He adapts his teaching methods to different learning styles, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed. While much of the instruction takes place online, he particularly values in-person interactions, where he can connect more closely with his students. His courses balance both theory and hands-on practice, giving students the tools they need to thrive in the workforce.
Dustyn’s ultimate goal is to help grow the next generation of leaders within their communities. He sees his students as future mentors, innovators, and role models. By instilling lasting habits, such as keeping up with industry news, he prepares them not only for their first job but for a lifetime of continuous learning in the fast-moving field of IT.
Grateful for the opportunities JEDI has given him, Dustyn now carries his passion for learning into teaching. His story reflects how education, mentorship, and determination can open doors to meaningful and rewarding careers.
