Starting your own business can be an intimidating experience. Sometimes it seems like there are more questions than answers. JEDI has pulled together some resources for New Brunswick Aboriginals who are considering entrepreneurship and who need some help getting started.
This list of resources covers funding information, training and events targeted at Aboriginal entrepreneurs, and communities of like-minded individuals who are already pursuing their own businesses and are willing to help you start yours.
1. JEDI Aboriginal Development Fund (JADF) -
JADF provides limited financial support for entrepreneurs in First Nation communities in New Brunswick.
2. The Aboriginal Banking Department -
The Aboriginal Banking Department was created by Business Development of Canada. Its financial products and consulting services are specially designed to serve the needs of Aboriginal entrepreneurs.
3. Aboriginal Entrepreneurship -
Aboriginal Entrepreneurship is an online community and resource circle for Aboriginal entrepreneurs. It is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and team up with other like-minded individuals.
4. Aboriginal Business Development Program (ABDP) -
ABDP provides services and support to Aboriginal entrepreneurs, including funding.
5. Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) -
CCAB is dedicated to the growth of Aboriginal businesses and the success of Aboriginal entrepreneurs.
The Canada Business Network includes a wide range of information on government programs, services and regulations. There is a service centre in each province and territory.
7. The National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association (NACCA) -
NACCA is the association for the network of Aboriginal Financial Institutions (AFIs). AFIs provide financing and support to Aboriginal businesses.
8. I DO BUSINESS. -
I DO BUSINESS. hosts events, entrepreneurial training programs and offers consulting services for Aboriginal entrepreneurs in Canada.
Aboriginal Entrepreneur provides workshops and training to help Aboriginal entrepreneurs start businesses.
10. The Native Investment and Trade Association (NITA) -
NITA is a communications link connecting Aboriginal businesses with each other and with the outside business community. It organizes Aboriginal business-related events, it has developed one of the best Canadian databases of Aboriginal businesses and it also has one of the largest libraries of Aboriginal business publications.
